Obituary for Barry Edward "Chick" Marler
Barry E. Marler (Chick) 76 of 3 Magma Court formerly of Marshall passed away from his earthly home Thursday, November 24, 2016 after a brief illness. Chick was the son of the late James Beauford Marler and Betty Sams Marler. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Josephine Edmonds Marler; son, Robbie, brothers, James (Peanut) and Jack Marler. Chick was a Marshall High Graduate, Air Force Veteran, Blanton’s Business College graduate and a retired employee of NC Department of Corrections at Craggy. Friend knowing him as “Chick or Sarge” knew he loved to fish and the outdoors.
Chick is survived by a son, Michael and two grandsons, Austin and Dalton Marler; brother, Johnny (Bud) Marler; sisters, Pansy Morris, Joyce Ann Gibson, Beulah Payne and Carol Marler. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 7:00pm Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Bud Marler and Kenneth Pack will officiate. Burial will be held 11:00am Monday, November 28 at Hice Hill Cemetery, Candler. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service. At other times the family will be at the home of Carol Marler in Marshall.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Blue Ridge Funeral Service, PO Box 27, Mars Hill, NC 28754 to assist the family with final arrangements.
