Obituary for Robert Elijah Smith Sr.

Robert Elijah Smith Sr., 87, of Ivy Baptist Rd., passed away April 21, 2017. Mr. Smith was the son of the late Zeb Smith and Bertie Wallin Smith Honeycutt. He was a US Army Korean War Veteran and a member of Ivy Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by a daughter, Melba “Dean “Metcalf, brothers, Jimmy and Carroll Smith.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elma “Pokey” Metcalf Smith; daughters, Sheila Metcalf (Daryl), Darla Chandler; son, Bobby Smith (Phyllis); sisters, Margaret Church (Preston), Rose Saunders (Bill); brothers, Ronnie Smith (Geraldine), Jackie Smith (Teresa); 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 3:00pm Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Larry Rogers and Preston Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Faith Independence Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the staff of Fleshers Nursing Home and VA Medical Center for the care they gave to Mr. Smith during his stay.
