Obituary for Richard Burnette Jones

Richard Burnette “Poppy” Jones, 70, of Weaverville passed away suddenly Saturday, May 27, 2017 at his home. He was the son of the late James Carl and Willie James Burnette Jones. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter Vivian Delorse Jones, sisters, Evelyn “Sis” Styles and Iva Nell Parham and brothers Dalph and Tommy Jones.
Richard served in the US Army as an Army Ranger and received a National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter Medal. He loved his family greatly and enjoyed working in his garden. He also loved to watch and read westerns.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Vera Price Jones; daughters, Vanessa Hipps (Travis) Robbie Jones (Shawn); four grandchildren, Philicia Jones-Hipps (Christian), Jamie King (Cameron), Angelina Jones-Hipps and Devan Jones-Hipps; great granddaughter, Nevaeh Ramsey whom adored her beloved Poppy; sister, Joanne Hendrix; brother, Robert “Brother” Jones; special cousin, Phillip Higgins and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends 1:00 – 2:00 PM Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM.The Reverend Weldon Ramsey will officiate. Burial will follow in the Jones Family Cemetery on 37 Ebb Burnette Road, Weaverville. At other times the family will be at the home.
