Annie Mae Shores (Coxie)
Annie Mae Coxie Shores passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Ashton Park Nursing home following a short illness. Annie Mae was 96 years old and was preceded in death by her husband William Shores of 65 years. She was the daughter of the late Silas and Cora Belle Haney Coxie. In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by her brothers Ed, Clyde and Franklin Coxie.
Surviving are her children Randy Shores and wife Brenda, Rena Jennings and husband Ed, Annie Mae had three grandchildren, Cindy Shores with great granddaughter Kimi Evans, granddaughter Aimee Rogers husband Scott and great granddaughters Karissa and Kaila Rogers, Tracey Reeder, husband Matt and great granddaughters Alli and Sarah Reeder. Annie Mae had seven brothers, surviving are Charles, Olin, Lee and Wiley Coxie.
Annie Mae’s life was all about music and she loved to sing. In her earlier years during World War II she entertained the troops while doing USO shows. After marrying her husband William, together they spend a lifetime making music with friends and loved ones. Many years they sang at Shindig on the Green, Mountain Folk Festival, performing at Pisgah View Ranch, Political events and other area events. But they could always be found in church on Sundays making music for their brothers and sisters in the Lord. Annie was considered to be one of the best yodelers around. She was truly world class.
The family would like to say thanks to all the people who have cared for her especially the employees at Mars Hill Retirement Home, Aston Park Nursing Home and Care Partners. These folks are truly remarkable.
A funeral service will be held 12:00pm Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverend Ed Jennings will officiate and internment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 11:00 -12:00 prior to service.
