Obituary for Grace Evelyn Maynor (Ledford)

Grace Evelyn Maynor (Ledford)
Grace Ledford Maynor, 93, of Weaverville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 6, 2017 following a long illness. She was born March 22, 1924 in Madison County. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Maynor of Weaverville, her parents, Lonnie and Mary Smith Ledford of Yancey County, two brothers, James Ledford of Asheville and Dee Ledford of New Jersey, a sister, Effie Blankenship of Asheville and daughter-in-law, Elaine McKinney Maynor of Weaverville.

She is survived by 5 sons, Ralph Maynor (Flo) of St. George, GA, Wade Maynor (Linda), Wayne Maynor (Special friend, Janet), Troy Maynor (Donna) and Zale Maynor, all of Weaverville; 3 brothers, Emery, Clyde and Edward Ledford, all of Baltimore, MD, a sister, Bertha Justice Nickols of Candler, two step-brothers, Earl and Carl Ledford and two step-sisters, Sheila Dickson and Rexie Riddle, all of NC.

Grace was very proud of her 5 sons, all of whom bravely served in various branches of the U.S. military during war and peace times. She also loved her wonderful daughters-in-law and shared that love with 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Grace was blessed to see 5 generations and her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 102:16 “When the Lord shall build up Zion he shall appear in his glory”. She was a member of Coles Cove Baptist Church in Weaverville and was an avid reader and student of the Bible and loved working in the garden. She taught Sunday School for several years, enjoyed singing Gospel music in her church choir and was a firm believer in prayer. Grace passed down that legacy to her family who continue to play and sing Gospel music in their churches.

A funeral service will be held 2:00PM Friday, November 10, 2017 in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service in Mars Hill with the Rev. Junior Hollifield and the Rev. Roger Boone officiating. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Thursday, November 9th also at Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Interment will be at West Memorial Park in Weaverville following the funeral service.

The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the caregivers of Weaverville Brian Center and Madison County Hospice for the loving care of their mother.
