Obituary for Gladys Radford (Maney)

Gladys Maney Radford, 100, Born December 17, 1917, of 490 Paint Fork Road, passed away, January 22, 2018 at Madison Health and Rehabilitation. Mrs. Radford born in Buncombe County to the late John and Victoria Anders Maney. She grew up in Jackson County, graduating from Sylva High School in 1936. After high school she graduated from Asheville Beauty Academy to become a licensed hair stylist in 1937. She worked at Ritz Beauty Shop in Asheville until her and Mr. Radford went to Baltimore, MD during WWII to work on aircrafts. After returning to Mars Hill she worked for Hammerland Manufacturing and then was employed by Square D in Asheville, where she retired. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Earl Radford and brothers, Frank and Fay Maney.
Mrs. Radford is survived by her children, Earlene Davis (Arthur) and Jack Radford (Emma Jean) all of Mars Hill; grandchildren, Jeremy Davis (Kellie) of Littleton, NC, K.C. Radford (Maggie) of Charlotte, NC, John Radford (Jocelyn) of Mars Hill, NC; great grandchildren, Adelaide Davis and Radford Davis, sister-in-law, Betty Radford and special friends, Don and Debbie Britt.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Friday, January 26, 2018 at Beech Glen Baptist Church of which she was an active member. Reverends Josh Hughes and Stanley Peek will officiate. The burial will follow in the Brigmon-McPeters Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8:00pm Thursday at Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
