Obituary for Mary Ellen Metcalf (Gardner)
Mary Ellen Gardner Metcalf, 89, of Metcalf Creek Loop, Mars Hill, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 23, 2018. She was a lifelong resident of Madison County, a retired school teacher from Mars Hill Elementary and a member of Paint Fork Baptist Church where she served as church treasurer for over 40 years. Mrs. Metcalf was the daughter of the late John and Vadie Parton Gardner. She was also preceded in death by her husband Harold Metcalf and brothers Frank, Robert and J.G. Gardner.
Mrs. Metcalf is survived by her son, Dan Metcalf (Rose) of Fairview; and two granddaughters, Mary Metcalf of Washington State and Kari Parr (Thomas) of Oklahoma; great grandson, David Parr, special niece, Bobbie Ledford; special nephew, Gary Gardner, both of Mars Hill; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Gardner, of Mars Hill, and Lucille Skaggs (Bronelle) of Kentucky.
A funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Paint Fork Baptist Church. Rev. Ronnie Robinson will officiate. The burial will follow in the Gardner-Gillis Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday, at Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
Mrs. Metcalf requested no flowers. Memorials may be made to Paint Fork Baptist Church, c/o Merita Rector, 34 Wilson Cove Rd. Mars Hill, NC 28754.
