Obituary for David McKinley Metcalf

David McKinley Metcalf, 83, of 740 Mountain Haven Drive, Mars Hill, died on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at Charles George VA Medical Center, after a long illness and a bout with the flu. He was the son of the late Jeter and Zura (Edwards) Metcalf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marilla Childs and 4 infant daughters.
Mr. Metcalf was a Barber in Madison County for 47 years, a member and former deacon of California Creek Baptist Church, member of 50 years, of French Broad Masonic Lodge and an Army veteran serving in Germany, as a tank commander just after the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Billie Dove Metcalf; children, Sheila Sams (Kevin) of Arkansas, Kathy Metcalf of Taylors, SC, Tim Metcalf (Shannon) of Mars Hill, and Tracy Pressley (Eric) of Mars Hill; sister, Gay Hunter; brothers, Gordon and Carroll Metcalf; 11 grandchildren, Brian, Matthew, Shevonne, Heidi, Joseph, Mitchell, Ashley, Lindsey, Shelbey, Erica and Michael; 10 great grandchildren and Papaw to Rosie Chandler.
A funeral service will be held at 3pm Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Rev. Josh McDevitt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Old Bull Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. French Broad Masonic Lodge #292 will conduct graveside rites. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
