Hubert B. Briggs, 97, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. He was born on February 4, 1920 in the Foster Creek Community of Madison County to the late Roscoe and Roberlie Fender Briggs. Hubert was a proud U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of the VFW Post #5483 and the American Legion Post in Madison County. He enjoyed camping, hunting and trout fishing, passing on these skills to many others.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by daughters, Tammy and Debbie; siblings, Ruthie, Ralph, Leonard, Macie Limer, Frankie Thomas and Jean Flowers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jamie Lee Redmond Briggs; son, Greg Briggs; granddaughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Vaughan (Victor); grandson, Grant Briggs. Also surviving are his sisters, Jessie Nesbitt and Wanda English (Emerson); brother, Phillip Briggs; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, February 7, 2018 in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Dr. Reverend Tommy Justus will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. VFW Post #5483 will conduct Military Rites. The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5:00PM at Mars Hill Baptist Church following the burial.
