Mary Kathleen Ball Sluder, 96, of 256 Secluded Valley Road, Marshall, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018, at her residence. She was a lifelong resident of Madison County and the daughter of the late Mausbie J. and Rieta Farmer Ball. Mrs. Sluder was a graduate of Asheville-Normal Teacher’s College and taught first grade in various community schools. She and her late husband, Lon F. Sluder, owned and operated their dairy farm for 30 years. Mrs. Sluder was a member of Payne’s Chapel Baptist Church and an avid seamstress and quilter.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Sluder was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon and sisters, Elva Sluder, Ruth Laughter and Mae McKay.
She is survived by two daughters, Rieta Wells (Aubrey) and Carolyn Potter (Phil); half-brother, M.J. Ball; grandchildren, Grey and Jarrod Wells, and Kathleen Potter; and two great grandchildren, Sydney and Adlee Wells.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm Monday, February 26, 2018, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Rev. Jimmy Dean Hensley will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bowman-Rector Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
