Obituary for Pastor George Allen Moore

Pastor George Allen Moore, 86, went to his heavenly home, Monday, March 5, 2018. George was the youngest of 19 children, born on a farm in Clarksville, VA, to his parents, William David and Julia Mary Chappel Moore. George was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He and his wife Mozelle, served 11 different churches in 6 different states. His love and compassion for his fellow mankind was a great inspiration to all who knew him. George loved the Lord and wanted Him to be glorified and exalted in everything he was called to do. Many knew George as the founder of a camp called Glory Ridge, but George would in fact give all the glory to God for the vision he received in 1971. George’s obedience to that vision birthed a place of welcome, worship, work, prayer, and simplicity where the presence of Jesus Christ heals lives and transforms communities.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Moore Bailey; and 16 brothers and sisters.
George is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Mozelle Moss Moore; daughters, Jennie Edmonds (Kenny) and Janice Ayer (Ray); sisters, Margaret Hatter and Alice Baskervill; 7 grandchildren, Katherine Capps (Tim), Kenneth Edmonds (Rebekah), Steven Edmonds (Jamie), Jeff Bailey (Sarah), Chris Edmonds (Joy), Chad Ayer (Felisha) and Chelsea Ayer; 9 great grandchildren, Ella and Anna Capps, Alexis, Arabella, Lucas, Abigail, Landon, and Braelynn Edmonds, and Cooper Bailey; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, March 9, 2018, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service, Mars Hill, NC. Reverends Chris Edmonds, Tommy Justus and Dennis Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at 3pm Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Bluestone Cemetery, Clarksville, VA.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3pm Sunday, March 18, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, SC, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
