Obituary for Alma J Rice (Shelton)
Alma J. Shelton Rice, 89, of 25 Rice Hollow Dr., passed away May 8, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Henry Garfield and Mary Etta Rice Shelton. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a husband of 69 years Ronald Burton Rice; her brothers, Harold, Don, and Robert Shelton; two infant daughters, Jessica, and Rebecka Rice.
Alma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother; she loved her family dearly and gave all she had to take care of them. She done without for herself to make a good life for her family. She never complained about anything and always hid her pains, you would never know if she was sick or hurting. Our mom loved everyone and would always give a helping hand to anyone. She was a pioneer to Madison County if there ever was one. She worked her fingers to the bone. We kids loved our mom and dad.
She is survived by her children, Mildred Arrington, Frances Hunter (Allen Davidson), Rodney Rice (Ramona), Bill Rice (Sandy), and Carl Rice (Sue); grandchildren, Miranda Taylor (Dwain), Ronnie Rice (Hannah), Randy Rice, Christy Garrett (Ricky), Jennifer Cook (David Cutshall), Roger Rice; great-grandchildren, Lorie Sisk and Jeremy Sisk, Tyler Davis, Bricen Cook (Linnea), Keith Rice, Daniel Rice, Maddie Rice, and Carrson Rice; step great-grandchildren, Megan Wallin (Casey), Sarah, Nancy, Amanda, Alfie, and Jessica; sisters and brothers, Patsy Grooms (Troy), Avery Shelton, and Buster Shelton (Glada); special friends, Susie Cody, Robbie Davis, Randy Tweed, JB Rice, Ruby Hensley, and Wayne “Goob” Alvey.
A graveside service will be held 3:30pm Monday, May 10, 2021 at Rice Cemetery. Reverends Jack Gassoway and Elmer Shelton will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rodney, Bill, Carl, Tyler, Bricen, Randy, Jeremy, Mark, David, and Lester.
At other times the family will be at the home of Alma, 25 Rice Hollow Dr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Blue Ridge Funeral Service to help with final expenses.
