Betty Ruth Hensley, 68 of Limestone, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 10, 2022. She is the daughter of the late Richard Vance Ponder and Zelma Lee Buckner. Betty served as a pianist, Sunday school teacher and church treasurer at Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN where she was a faithful member. Betty retired from Bank of America. She was preceded in death by 3 great grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Charles Hensley; children: Richie Honeycutt (Beverly), Scott Honeycutt, Shalina Willis (Adam), Savannah Williams (Chad) and Brandy Thompson; sister: Arlene White (Billy); brothers: Gary Ponder (Beth), Robert Ponder (Paula); 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and one on the way due September 3rd of this year; brother-in-law: Arnold Hensley (Mitzi); sister-in-law: Lorraine Harrelson (Jerry); as well as several nieces and nephews.
Betty loved her family. She always looked forward to the times they could all be together and fill her home with laughter, love, and food. (The best snack cabinet in the world is at Mamaw’s house.) She enjoyed the time she could sit and play the piano, whether by herself, with family, or at church. She loved doing word puzzles and would sit on her porch every morning working one.
Betty could bring any dead plant her children brought over back to life. She took pride in how well she nursed and helped grow her rhododendron plant. She was always very organized. She used her label maker for everything from cabinets to the children’s toys to help them learn to read.
Betty has a large family that has loved her deeply and will miss her fiercely. However, knowing we will see her again one day will keep us moving forward “one day at a time.”
