Obituary for Betty Mace (Norton)

Betty Norton Mace, age 95, quietly moved from this world to her heavenly home on October 18, 2023. She was born In Mars Hill, NC September 13, 1928, to the late Luther Norton and Nora Davis Norton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years Dewey Mace, brothers Stephen Baxter Norton (S.B.) and Alvin Norton, her oldest daughter, Patsy Mace Worley, her grandson Jeffery Edmonds and great granddaughter, Maddie Rae Jones.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Pamela Mace Borelli (Richard), Peggy Mace Howell (Roger), Rhonda Mace Edwards (Owen) and twin sons, Stephen Darryl Mace and Stanley Gerald Mace (Jody). Betty was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

She also worked for many years at the Mars Hill Elementary School lunchroom and took immense joy in providing meals for all the children.

Betty will always be remembered for her unending love for her husband Dewey who she longed to be reunited with since his passing in 2002, her devotion and self-sacrifice for her family and her faith in the Lord. She was happiest when surrounded by her family; always ready to listen, advise, help, heal and hug.

While we grieve that we are separated from our mother, mamaw and friend we also rejoice and celebrate her long, full, and wonderful life and look ahead with confidence to that great reunion day when we will see her again in Glory. What a day that will be!

A funeral service will be held 3:00pm Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1343 Bailey Street, Mars Hill, NC where she was a member with Reverends Glenn Graves and Leroy Jarvis officiating. Betty’s grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 before the church service. Burial will follow at Little Ivy Baptist Church cemetery.

The family would like to express our appreciation to the staff of Madison Health & Rehabilitation for their care and kindness.
