Obituary for Billy Bryan
Billy Zack Bryan, 81, husband of Margie Bryan, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 29, 2022. He passed peacefully at home with family by his side.
Born on June 6, 1941, in Madison County, NC, he was the son of the late Zack Arnold and Billie Deal Bryan. Billy graduated from Marshall High School in 1959 where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He also attended Mars Hill College for one year.
In late 1960 Billy entered the Army where he served for two years before being honorably discharged.
While visiting his ailing mother in the hospital, Billy met Margie Moss – a nurse who was assigned to care for Mrs. Bryan. That began a courtship culminating in marriage and the couple moving to Charlotte, NC in 1963.
They lived in Charlotte for 20 years where they worked and raised their only child, Russell. In 1983 Billy and Margie returned “home” to Western North Carolina. While here, Billy worked for the Blue Ridge Parkway for 17 years before retiring in 2000.
Billy loved being outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, golf, and watching sports. He was part of a small group of men working to expand the Maranatha Baptist Church campus, where he was an active member until his health declined.
Surviving him is his wife of 59 years Margie Bryan, his son Russell Bryan (Betsy) and grandchildren Dylan Bryan and Maria Bryan of Easley, SC. He is also survived by his three sisters Glenda Hess (Allen), Linda Buckner (Ray), and Lorna Ogle (Binky). Billy was predeceased by his parents Zack and Billie Bryan.
The family will be receiving friends on Monday August 1, 2022, at 5:00pm at Maranatha Baptist Church (1040 Lower Flat Creek Road, Alexander, NC). A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6:00pm at the church.
