Obituary for Carol Anne Matlack Tyson

Carol Anne Matlack Tyson
August 1, 1939 – July 9, 2022

Carol Anne Matlack Tyson, 82, of Weaverville, passed away at her residence on Saturday July 9, 2022, just 22 days shy of her 83rd birthday. She passed peacefully and we believe she was ready to join her husband, Billy Tyson (who died in 2019) to tell him all about the great grandchildren he wasn’t able to know.

Carol was born on August 1, 1939 in Mt. Holly, New Jersey to the late George “Pete” Matlack and Margaret Matlack. Carol was their oldest child. Her brother, George A Matlack passed away in 2004 and sister, Linda Matlack Wright passed in 2010. She missed them all very much and often said she wanted to call and talk to them.

Carol lived in Miami, Florida for about 36 years raising a family and working as a bookkeeper in the construction industry. In 2000, after retirement, she and Billy moved to Nashville, Georgia to be closer to Billy’s family. After he passed, she moved to Weaverville, NC. Carol’s greatest love was her family. She devoted her life to caring for her children, loving and bragging on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved animals, especially cats. She found great comfort in their company.

Surviving are her children: Carole (Jeff) Pennell of Weaverville, NC, William Tyson of St. Petersburg, FL, Glynn Tyson (April Bolet) of Lantana, FL, Joseph Tyson of Rock Hill, SC, Lurinda (Steve) Hoogstraten of Kalamazoo, MI

grandchildren:
Children of Carole and Jeff Pennell

great grandchildren:

Also surviving are her sisters-in-law that she considered sisters: Juanita Spikes of Pearson, GA, Anna Sue Wiggins of Tifton, GA and Wilma Tyson of Macon, GA; nieces: Michelle Edwards, Arlene Ford, Marie Starkey and their families, as well as, many nieces and nephews from the Tyson Clan; Carol’s special Weaverville Friends: Ann Fender, Nancy Kelly, Bobbie Ledford and Arlette Varela (and family).

The family would like to thank: Four Seasons Palliative Care and Hospice Care for their support and loving care for Carol over the last seven months. And the many doctors and health care professionals who cared for Carol in North Carolina.

The family will have a private memorial service.
