Obituary for Celia Gaye Metcalf Arrowood Hunter

In the early morning hours of December 20, 2022, Ms. Celia Metcalf Hunter left her beloved Weaverville, North Carolina mountain farm for her forever home. She was preceded in death by husbands; Perry Easton Arrowood in 1981 and Calvin Coolidge Hunter in 1999.
The second child born to the late Jeter McKinley Metcalf and Zura Jane Edwards Metcalf of Marshall, NC, Celia grew up on a farm in a large rural, family community. She is also predeceased by her only sister Marilla Jane Childs, brother, David McKinley Metcalf and infant brothers, Jeter Mark Metcalf, and Jeffrey Daniel Metcalf.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Donna Jane Arrowood Marchion (Cliff) of Kingsport, TN, Dwayne Perry Arrowood of Mars Hill, NC, and Lloyd McKinley Arrowood (Karen) of Asheville, NC. Celia also leaves behind one grandchild, Rachel Michelle Breilo-Bell, one great-grandson, Caleb Isaiah Bell and two brothers, Charles Gordon Metcalf and Carroll Humphrey Metcalf (Gwen), plus many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Celia retired from Square D Manufacturing Company in Asheville, NC, after spending almost forty years in assembly work. Enjoying her retirement, she liked exploring old country roads, spending time at the Outer Banks of NC and her cabin at Nantahala, NC. Celia also served as a long-time volunteer with the Asheville Hospice Organization.
A lady of many interests and talents her favorite activity was gardening, as she liked digging in the dirt. Entertaining family and friends was an activity she poured her heart into and thoroughly enjoyed. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed crocheting. Always learning, she read anything she could get her hands on, especially the Bible. Even at 90 years old, Celia was full of humor and liked to laugh. However, her most enjoyable times were spent with the First Born Church friends (she considered family) in Weaverville, NC, where she sang in the choir and performed numerous services for others. She loved her family and enjoyed researching ancestral history, sharing fond memories of musical events and activities from her childhood.
A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, December 23, 2022, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverend Jerry Jamerson will officiate. A private burial will be held at Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
