Obituary for Dacie Lorene Ward (Akins)

Dacie Akins Ward, “Nana,” age 74, of Asheville, ended her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and went to
be with the Lord on Sunday, January 1, 2023. Dacie was born January 30,1948, in the Little Laurel
community in Madison County and was a 1965 graduate of Laurel School.

Dacie is proceeded in death by her parents, Dewey and Nadine Akins; brother, Buddy Akins; and sister, Loretta Akins Fox. She is also proceeded in death by her son, Erik Ward, who died in 2021.

Dacie is survived by her loving husband Dewey Ward of 57.5 years, and is the mother of Missy Honeycutt (Preston), and Nana of Hannah and Levi Honeycutt. Dacie married the love of her life on July 9, 1965, and Dewey stood by her side each day, caring tenderly for her during her journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. Dacie loved being a Nana, spending weekends camping at River Plantation, singing Elvis Presley, drinking peanut butter milkshakes, yellow roses, and watching butterflies. Dacie was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2013 and quickly lost her memory, but she never forgot the love she held for her family and friends.

The family will receive friends at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service, Mars Hill, on Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 1-2pm, followed by a service led by Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen at 2:00 pm.
The family would like to thank the care givers at Aston Park Healthcare Center for their constant love,
patience, and care shown to Dacie as well as the family since April of 2016.
