Doris Marie Rice Burnette, 90, of Marshall, NC, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Frankie Gentry and Jonah Rice. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church since 1959 and the church organist for over 50 years. She won state ribbons for quilting, chow-chow and her apple butter. She was a great cook. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Ovid Burnette; son, Tim Burnette; and brother, Jonah Rice Jr,

She is survived by her sons, Gary Burnette (Donna), Greg Burnette (Lisa), stepmother, Ardath Peeke Rice; daughter -in-law Terri Burnette; grandchildren, Shaunte’ Burnette Means, Travis Burnette, Timmy Burnette, Tiffany Burnette Payne, Tara Burnette Hyatt, Gabby, Lauren, and Micah Burnette; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Peggy Roberts (Craig); step-sister, Barbara Davis; sister-in-law; Helen Jones Rice and brother-in-law, J.W. Burnette.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm Wednesday, August 23,2023 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Reverends Timmy Burnette, Jason Hyatt, and Keith Watkins officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
