Doris DeBruhl Taylor, age 80, of Marshall, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2023. Doris was born on October 29, 1942, in Buncombe County. She was a daughter of the late Byron and Fushia Gosnell DeBruhl. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Taylor, and her sister, Mary Killian.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Lesa Coates; sons, Durryl and Roger Taylor (Amy); 6 grandchildren, Wesley Coates, Neil Coates (Emily), Austin Taylor, Russell Taylor (Hunter), Tiffany Edward, and Courtney Beck (Andrew); 6 great grandchildren, Landon, Riley, Grayson, Quinn, Lincoln, and Julien.

Doris’ funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Grapevine Baptist Church. Reverend Danny Jenkins and Reverend Larry Sprouse will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Tuesday July 25, 2023, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service.

Doris enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and preserving her bounty for the family. She was a long-time attendee of Grapevine Baptist Church which she held close to her heart. She held pride in her family and their achievements and yet at the same time held them to the standards that justified her pride. Her loved ones and those who knew her remarked on a strength and depth of character presented humbly and quietly, yet as effective as the loudest voice. She could correct you with a look.
