Obituary for Evelyn Hensley (Penland)

Evelyn Penland Hensley, age 89 of the Paint Fork community in Madison County went home to be with the Lord on February 6, 2021. Evelyn was a native of Yancey County. She was the wife of the late Roy Floyd Hensley. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Estie Robinson Penland; brothers, Arvel, Arnold and Carol Penland; sisters, Ethel Turner, Frances Dodd and Lena Metcalf.

She is survived by her sister, Camilee Penland Robinson of Burnsville and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Evelyn worked as a teacher’s assistant at the Beech Glen school and later retired after 25 years at Madison Manor in Mars Hill. She was an avid gardener and excellent cook. Evelyn was known for having a large variety of home-grown canned goods, and any time you visited her the first thing she would say is “Can I make you something to eat.” She will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held 1:00PM Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverend Cecil Hopps will officiate. Burial will follow in the Paint Gap Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
