Obituary for Floy Lorena Maney (Dillingham)

Floy Lorena Dillingham Maney, 96, died Sunday, October 9, 2022, after a period of declining health. Mrs. Maney was born January 12, 1926, the only child of the late Bob Henley and Lora Allen Dillingham in the Dillingham community of Buncombe County where she had lived her entire life. In addition, to her parents she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reeves Maney; a granddaughter, Lindsay Haynes and a grandson in-law, Gerald Carswell.

Until her health condition made it impossible, Mrs. Maney was an active member of Dillingham Presbyterian Church; and at the time of her death, was the oldest living member. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she served in any capacity needed within her church: in Bible School, tending the flowers surrounding the Church premises, arranging the sanctuary flowers most every Sunday, and was a member of the Women in the Church group. She was especially renowned for her homemade butter mints, butterscotch pies, and apple cakes. Until her eyesight failed her, she loved sewing and quilting, but would much rather been outside tending her flower garden. In later years, she spent her time reading, working jigsaw puzzles, supervising others tending her flowers, reading her Bible and every devotional she could get her hands on, and was an avid Girls’ College Softball Fan.

Mrs. Maney is survived by daughters Kim Ray and husband, Danny; Karen Haynes and husband Bruce; sons Roger Maney and wife Sherry: and DuWaine Maney and wife Terri. She took great joy in visiting with and loving her six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joann Woodall and husband Jim, three nieces, Andrea, Amy and Ashley, and special friend, Mildred, whom Mama spoke to every day by telephone.

Our family would like to thank her granddaughter, Lauren, grandson, Eric, Tammy, Cricket, Michele, Brook, and Shelby for their companionship and tireless care in keeping Mama in her home—always showering her with love, compassion, and respect: the staff of Barnardsville EMS, Advent Health, Pruitt Home Health, and Four Seasons Hospice.

In keeping with our Mama’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service. Private burial will be in the Maney Cemetery in Barnardsville. As an expression of sympathy, if desired, memorial donations may be made to the Barnardsville Fire Department, 100 Dillingham Road, Barnardsville, NC 28709.

“Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
