Obituary for Gail Murray (Ledford)

Gail Murray, age 84, of Weaverville, passed away on October 13, 2023. She was born on April 22, 1939,
in Madison County, to the late Curtis Ledford and Hazel Howell Ledford Ramsey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Billy Murray, brother, Curtis
“Gary” Ledford and wife Linda “Jeanette” Ledford, eldest brother Dean Ledford, brothers in law, Charles
Payne, Harley, Zane and Russell Murray, and grandson, Zachary Harkins.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Dr. Michael Murray (and wife Carmen); daughter, Anastasia
“Stacy” Isbouts, 3 sisters-in-law, Bobbie Anne Ledford, Robbie Jean Payne, and Bernice Murray; 7
grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gail will always be lovingly remembered for the following characteristics, which truly made her one of a
kind. She never missed an opportunity to play a joke or tease anyone around her, and you’d better not
offer her a hug, or she wouldn’t let you go! Then, she’d say, “Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine!” Gail
was a lover of pinto beans and cornbread, a champion cheating Rummy player, and she left her driveway
every Saturday with a map, and a sausage biscuit to hit all the yard sales! She adored her grandchildren
and faithfully carried them back and forth from Mars Hill to Asheville with the radio blaring “Turn the
radio on!” She loved to roller skate and would accompany the children to the skating rink at every
opportunity to demonstrate how it was done. Gail worked a full time career as a purchasing agent at
Micro Switch, raised a family, and served as a Minister’s wife. She was always thinking of a way to make
life easier for her family and neighbors.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday October 17, 2023 in Piney Mountain Baptist Church.
Reverend Steve Freeman will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm prior to the service at the church.

Expressions of sympathy, are appreciated, and can be sent to Blue Ridge Funeral Service or a donation to
