Obituary for Evelyn Fox Anderson

Ila Evelyn Fox Anderson, 90, of Mars Hill went home to be with her Lord on Friday, September 22, 2023. Evelyn was born in the Cane River community of Yancey County to James Howard “Jack” Fox and Mary Ray Fox.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Emerson Anderson, Jr., her sisters, Elizabeth McKinney and Katherine Rice, her brother, Frank Fox, and her stepmother, Shirley Cox Fox.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Rick Anderson (Debbie) and Lisa Anderson Sessions (John); her grandchildren, Kyle Anderson (Lauren), Olivia Sessions, Vanessa Anderson Hester (Dean), Dillon Sessions (Liv), and Merritt Sessions Murray (Tyler); and her great grandchildren: Andy and Anagail Hester, Wyatt Sessions, and Will Anderson. She is also survived by three siblings: Robert Fox (Betty), Sam Fox (Joyce), and Wanda Edwards (Bernie), as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Evelyn enjoyed a forty-nine-year career at Mars Hill College where she began as a secretary and retired as Assistant Director of Computer Services. She ushered in the computer age at the college when computers took up several large rooms, but it was her servant’s heart for which she will be most remembered. She took care of everyone: family, friends, and neighbors.

Loving, smart, independent, and always kind, she was beautiful in every way and will be missed every day until we see her again.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverend Dr. Tommy Justus will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gardner-Gillis Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
