Obituary for Irma Crawford (Blazer)

Irma Louise Blazer Crawford, 84 of Locust Grove Road, died Saturday, February 19, 2022 at her home. Born to the late Bill and Ruby (Ruth) Blazer, Irma was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a member of the North Buncombe High graduating class of 1956. In addition to her parents, Irma is preceded in death by brothers and sisters in law; Ellis (Hilda) Blazer and Claude (Faye) Blazer, and infant sister Evelyn.

Irma attended Blanton’s Jr. Business College and began her bookkeeping career with Pearlman’s Furniture. In addition to raising her children, Irma worked for several local businesses, including Stoney Knob Grocery, Johnsons Farm & Home Supply and Ference Cheese. Irma devoted her life to Christ and served as pianist, organist, and Sunday School teacher over the years. She was a member of Mount Sheba Baptist Church. Although unable to attend services in her final years, Irma worshipped faithfully at home through music, prayer, and devotions.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years; WC Crawford, daughters, Melody Crawford of Erwin, TN, Suzette Bartlett (Carroll) of Weaverville and Lydia Russell (Will) of Maryville, TN; grandson, James Bartlett of Weaverville, as well as a host of friends and family regarded as close kin.

Irma never met a stranger and genuinely cared about the many people she befriended through the years.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service with Rev. Steve Rhinehart officiating. The family will receive friends 12:30 to 2:00PM prior to the service.
