Obituary for Isaac Arvile Rice

Isaac “Arvile” Rice, of Mars Hill went home to be with the Lord, January 12, 2020 at the VA Hospice Center. Arvile was born October 12, 1931 in Madison County. He is the son of the late Simon and Minnie Rice. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest and Eugene; sisters, May Bell, Lovada, Ella, Nellie and Este Lee.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris Gosnell Rice; his children; daughter, Debbie Ash (Jerry); and son, Larry Rice; grandchildren, Scott Harwood, Amber Henderson (Ryan),Tanner Rathbone and Rachel Agren; one sister, Vergie Edwards and several nieces and nephews.

Arvil was a member of Peeks Chapel Baptist Church and attended Beech Glen Baptist Church. He left home at the age of 17 and went to work in Michigan in the auto industry, then worked in the shipyards at Newport News, VA. He served in the Army from 1953-1956 before returning to Madison County to work at American Enka, Champion Maintenance and Ingles Markets.

A funeral service will be held 2:00PM Friday, January 17, 2020 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Troy Rogers and Stanley Peek will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rice Cemetery on East Fork Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the VA Hospital ICU and VA Hospice Center for their care and support.
