Reverend J.D. Deyton, age 76, of Weaverville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at home.
A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late James and Lola Deyton.
Surviving is his brother, Wayne Deyton (Linda), his wife of 56 years, Beverly Fain Deyton, his daughters, Amy Buckner (Duane) and Anna Deyton-Rice (Paul), his grandchildren, Grace and Joshua Buckner; nephews, Shawn and James Deyton, and one niece, Nicole Webb.
He was a barber for 34 years in the Weaverville area. For 26 years, he was a Baptist minister and pastor at Carson’s Chapel, Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Coles Cove Baptist Church, Coffee Ridge Baptist Church and Lusk Chapel. He also attended the following churches when not pastoring: Oak Ridge Baptist Church and New Hope Baptist Church of Burlington, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm Monday, March 8, 2021 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Brad Willis, Larry Sprouse, Harry Culbertson, Jr., Anthony Roberts and Roy McPeters will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 2pm Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Duane Buckner, Paul Rice, Zack Crowder, Bo Burnette, Orville English, Chick Calloway and Bryson Shook.
