Obituary for Jean Waldrop (Houston)

Jean Houston Waldrop, age 93, passed peacefully into her Savior’s arms in the early morning hours on Thursday, October 27, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Mae Howell Houston and the loving wife of the late Woodard F. Waldrop. She was born in Ashland, Kentucky and grew up in Madison County, North Carolina. She and Woodard married and raised their family in Weaverville, North Carolina where Jean resided the rest of her life Jean was a 1947 graduate of Flat Creek High School. She worked for Connie’s Fashions in Asheville. She was of the Christian faith. Jean was a hard worker who devoted her time and boundless energy to caring for her family and loved ones. She was a passionate gardener and a
student of herbalism and natural healing.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by her son Allan Waldrop, daughter Karen Waldrop Rice, brother Hal Houston and sister Vanda Houston Robertson. Surviving to cherish precious memories of Jean are her daughter, Kathy Waldrop Brown (Danny Joe), son-in-law Danny Rice, granddaughters Lisa Waldrop Austin (Rob), Aimee Brown, Laura Brown McCracken (Kenny), and Brett Rice Henderson (Jimmy), great-grandchildren Lindsay and Kevin Austin, Kathryn, Andrew, and Ben Bumgarner, and Lorelei Henderson.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 31, 2022, at 2:00pm in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Asheville with granddaughters Aimee Brown and Brett Henderson officiating.

The family would like to thank each staff member of CarePartners Hospice Solace Center for
the compassionate care provided to Jean and her family.
