Jerry David McKinney, Sr., passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023. He was the son of the late Coy and Susie Buckner McKinney and a native of Madison County, having lived most of his life in Buncombe County. Jerry is preceded in death by his two brothers, Billy and Clyde McKinney. He is a member of Union Valley Freewill Baptist Church.
Jerry is survived by his wife, of 64 years, Betty Hensley McKinney; a daughter, Deborah McKinney; sons, Jerry McKinney, Jr. (Rene) and Robin McKinney (Sheila); sister, Merita Dudley (Bob); grandchildren, David McKinney III, Katie McKinney, Nick McKinney (Stephanie), Justin McKinney (Cari), and Josh Fowler; great grandchildren, Joshua McKinney (Sarah-May), Jeremy, Verdie Mae, Banna Jo, Weston, Easton, Loralei, Gavin, Levi, Zeke, and Clay McKinney; future great-great granddaughter, Virginia May McKinney; and close friend of the family, Cherryl Roberts.
A funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Darryl Roberts and Lanny Cobb will officiate. Burial will follow in the Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Nick, Joshua, Justin and Jeremy Mckinney, Josh Fowler and Stevie Wallin, with David McKinney, III serving as an Honorary pallbearer.
