Obituary for Johnny Bruce "Bud" Marler

Rev. Johnny Bruce “Bud” Marler, 81, of Marshall went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the VA Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Madison and the son of the late James “Bufford” and Betty Sams Marler.

Bud was a US Army Veteran and a member and Chaplin for the American Legion of Veterans. He was passionate about ministering. He pastored multiple churches in Madison and Buncombe Counties and had a radio ministry of over 50 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Marler, brothers, Barry, James and Jack Marler; sisters, Carol Marler and Beaula Payne.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Yvonne Greene; daughters, Diane Webb (Dean), Cindy Rhew (Jeffrey), Helen Raines (Johnny) and Karen (Lance McMillian), grandchildren; Krystal Worley (Jason), Hannah Betsch (Brian), Natalie Watkins (Jackson), Jacklyn Hannah (Justin), Jesse Rhew, Allison Raines, Heidi Bishop (Jake), Collin Robinson (Summer), Luke Robinson, and Hunter Robinson; sisters, Pansy Morris and Ann Gibson and six great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Monday, March 20, 2023, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Johnny Raines and Jeffrey Rhew will officiate. The burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be, Jason Worley, Justin Hannah, Jackson Watkins, Collin, Luke, and Hunter Robinson, Jake Bishop and Jesse Rhew.
