Obituary for Judy Gail Beaver (Metcalf)

Judy Metcalf Beaver, a model of unwavering faith, always encouraged her family by reminding them “God’s got this!” Surrounded by her loving family, Judy left her earthly home to live eternally with Jesus on November, 30th, 2020 at the age of 67. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family, and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Judy is survived by her husband, Ricky Beaver; sons, Michael (Cynthia) and Chad (Hannah); grandchildren, Trevor (Cierra), Shaina, Kaitlyn, Mason, Lane and Josie; brother Eugene Metcalf; sister Joyce Robinson (Ronnie), and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Ruby Metcalf, and brother Charles Metcalf.
Judy was born on July 15, 1953 to Carroll and Ruby Metcalf. She was married to Ricky, the love of her life, for 48 years, despite her eldest brother’s warning that “He didn’t give this marriage more than a year.” Judy was a member of Terry’s Fork Baptist church where she was the pianist. Her family and church knew they could always count on her prayers; she was a prayer warrior for the Kingdom of Christ. Judy instilled in her family an admirable work ethic while employed at Microswitch-Honeywell in Mars Hill as a department supervisor until the plant closed. She then went back to school setting a great example of motivation and intelligence for her grandchildren. She loved school, especially math, and would have loved to be a student forever! After completing her degree, she worked as a medical coder at MAHEC Family Health Center. Judy loved spending time with her family camping and riding golf carts. She often said “My favorite people call me Mamaw”. Her family enjoyed Mamaw’s good cooking, especially biscuits and gravy. She loved shopping to find a good bargain and watching her grandkids play sports. Judy was always up for a competitive family game of Cranium, Rummy, Pictionary, or Family Feud no matter how late the game might run; many family nights lasted until midnight with Judy leading the party! Nothing made her family feel better than when she gave them one of her big, warm hugs.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm Friday, December 4, 2020, at Terry’s Fork Freewill Baptist Church. Reverend Randy Sprinkle will officiate. Burial will follow in Anderson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
A special Thank you is expressed from the family for the prayers and love demonstrated during our time of loss.
