Obituary for McClelland "Mac" Rice

McClelland “Mac” Rice, 84, of Marshall passed away April 5, 2023. He was the son of the late Everett and Wavel Franklin Rice.

Mac was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served from 1959-1962 and worked for the railroad before attending Western Carolina University, receiving a Teaching degree. Most of his career was teaching driver’s education at Madison High School. He was a member of Peek’s Chapel Baptist Church, a 50 year member of the French Broad Masonic Lodge 292, and a Gideon.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Bobby Jean Peek Rice; brother, J.V. Rice; sisters, Golda Noblitt and Othella Ogle.

He is survived by his son, Brandle McClelland Rice of the home; sisters, Rozella Ramsey, Dora Ann Rice, Karen Buff (Hurley); brother, Harlon Rice (Tammy); sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Rice, Tommy Ann Blackwell; brother-in-law, Bobby Blackwell; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday April 8, 2023, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service with Rev. Stanley Peek and Rev. Danny Jenkins of Grapevine Baptist Church officiating, where Mac attended for 40 yrs. The family will receive friends 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Dill Peek Cemetery on East Fork. His nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Roger, Shannon and Madison, and Madison Health and Rehab Staff, for Mac’s excellent care.
