Obituary for Michael Graham Edwards
Michael Graham Edwards, age 74, passed away Monday, March 6, 2023. He was born June 11, 1948, in Buncombe County to the late Woodrow and Sue Clayton Edwards.
Graham was a proud U.S. Marine, serving in Vietnam and was a Prisoner of War. He entered the military straight out of high school and retired from the military as a motor transport operator. Graham served in the Pentagon, was the driver for Colonel Oliver North, and served as a guard at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. When he retired, he was Master Gunnery Sergeant. Graham was a longtime volunteer Fireman, currently with the Jupiter Fire Department, and former member of the Buncombe County Fire Department Honor Guard. He was a member of Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Woody Edwards.
He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Thomas Edwards; step-son, James Hughey (Teresa); sister Vickey Lackey (Byron); and two grandchildren, Everett William Hughey and Thomas Reid Hughey.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm Monday March 13, 2023, in Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Pastor Larry Sprouse will officiate. The Buncombe County Fire Department Honor Guard will provide Honors at the service. The family will receive friends 2:00 – 4:00 pm prior to the service.
Burial will be at 12:00 pm Tuesday, March 14, 2023, in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain with Military Honors.
