Odell Shelton, 89, of Erwin TN went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Odell was born February 12, 1933, in Madison County NC to his late parents Joe and Nellie (Hensley) Shelton. He was a member of Carmen Church of God and loved the Lord. He gave praise to the Lord not only through his worship, teaching, and testimony but by playing the guitar and singing for many years with his wife Verna Lee and sister-in-law Gladys. He thoroughly enjoyed being the song leader at Carmen for many years. Even though he never had children of his own, he was a Christian father and mentor to so many. He also taught Sunday school to the young adult class for many years. He was always helping others, caring, and loving to all. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Verna Lee Shelton of 68 years. Left to cherish his memory are brothers, Arlin (Margaret) Shelton, Clifford (Mary) Shelton, and Harley Gerald (Nancy) Shelton, Sister-in-law: Rosella Shelton; numerous nieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death are brothers, Lester Shelton, Greenelee Shelton, Edd Shelton, Bluferd Shelton, Fred Shelton, Barnabas Shelton, Dennis Shelton, Crate Shelton, Richard Shelton; sisters, Wadie (Shelton) French, Zelois (Shelton) Hensley, Louise (Shelton) Atkinson; brothers-in-law: Lark Hensley, Grady French and Dale Atkinson; sisters-in-law: Winnie Shelton, Velma Shelton, Faye Shelton, Frances Shelton, Hazel Shelton, Zettie Shelton and Mary Lou Shelton.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Carmen Church of God at 4:00 pm with Reverend Eric Young officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A burial will follow in the Carmen Church of God cemetery.
