Obituary for Robbie Delora Carter (Ramsey)

Robbie Delora Ramsey Carter, born 104 years ago, Robbie Carter stepped into Heaven on March 7, 2023, at her home. A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late D.W. (Dock) and Octavia Willis Ramsey.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Vaughan Carter and “Andy” Anderson; a son, Robert (Bob) Carter; two sisters, Oval Buckner and Zelda Ballard; two brothers, Jimmy and Glen Ramsey; son-in-law Max Lennon; Step Granddaughter, Janice Brumley (Ken).

She is survived by a son, Ray Carter (Gladys), a daughter Ruth Lennon Rice (Larry); seven grandchildren, David Carter (Kathy), Sybil Carter, Daniel Lennon (Emily), Robin Bylenga, Shannon Edge (Billy), Jolie Lockard, and Amber Dyess (John); step grandson, Kenny Anderson; twenty-two great grandchildren, and seventeen great-great grandchildren.

Robbie graduated from Mars Hill High School and attended Asheville Normal Teacher’s College. For many years, she worked at Hammarlund and Micro Switch until she retired.

She was a faithful member of California Creek Baptist Church since she was in the eighth grade where she excelled as a Sunday School teacher, leader of young people, missions groups and “training union.”

She made her house on her mountain a home filled with love for her family, hot biscuits, and a warm welcome. She cooked hot meals every day and made certain her flowers enticed beautiful birds and butterflies. Passersby would sometimes stop to talk with the lady mowing her yard…even until she was 100 years old!

On her 100th birthday, she rode a Harley-Davidson through downtown Mars Hill, and was recognized as The Queen of Madison County during the fair. The town of Mars Hill proclaimed July 5, 2018 as Robbie Carter Day!

A tribute to her life will be held at California Creek Baptist Church, Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Her pastor, Josh McDevitt, will officiate.
