Ruben “Kenneth” Gosnell, age 77 of Weaverville passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 at his home. He is the son of the late Ruben and Esther Mae Rice Gosnell. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by a daughter Linda Gail English. Everybody knew that Kenneth was a trucker. Depending on where he was, his handle was “Grey Diamond”, or “Flat Top”. Every one of his trucker friends, knew him as a front door man. You could usually see Kenneth with a toothpick in his mouth and he never missed an opportunity to offer you a piece of peppermint candy. He was incredibly competitive and played rook regularly with his family. Kenneth was the “go-to” man in his family. When he was called by his family members for anything, he would unselfishly drop everything to accommodate their needs no matter day or night. Kenneth would have been described by his family as a rock, a constant, and was affectionately known as “Pappaw”
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Oma Shelton Gosnell; daughters, Sandy Metcalf (Ray), Wilma Keller (Daniel) and Judy Shelton (Gene); grandchildren, Kelsey Keller (David), Falecia Thomas (David), Scottie Shelton (Tina), Cynthia Smith (Timothy), Tyler Keller, Kayla Metcalf (Tyler) and Raegan Metcalf and great grandchildren, Dakota and Halley.
A funeral service will be held 2:00PM Friday, February 12, 2021 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverend Steve Honeycutt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gosnell Cemetery in Revere Community. The family will receive friends 12:30 – 2:00PM prior to the service.
