Obituary for Ruth Susan Sutherland (Shook)
Ruth Susan Shook Radford Sutherland, age 95, of Weaverville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones, on Tuesday August 8, 2023. She was born September 25, 1927 in Madison County to the late Hubert and Macie Fender Shook.
Ruth was a member of Victory Fellowship Worship Center. She retired from Mission Hospital as the Housekeeping Director. In her spare time, she enjoyed her vegetable garden, reading and studying her Bible; her favorite scripture is John 3:16. Ruth loved spending time with her family, she loved birds, horses, and working in her flowers in the yard; her favorite color was blue. Her favorite childhood memory was after dinner, the whole family would sit around Papa Shook and listen to him read the Bible.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Dallas Radford, and Virgil Sutherland; daughter, Linda Kaye Davis; grandson Richard Lee Smith; great grandson, Kristopher Smith; brothers, Joe, James, Fred and Edd Shook; and sister, Ethel Rice.
Left to cherish Ruth’s memory are her granddaughters, Charlene Smith, Sandra Williams, and Donna Smith; great grandchildren, Crystal Smith, Mychal Williams, and Jordy Williams; 14 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Ned and Jerry Shook; sisters, Francis Revis, and Norene Beard; along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday August 11, 2023, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverend Sonia Burleson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Little Ivy Baptist Church Cemetery, Mars Hill. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday.
