Obituary for Shelby Jean Phillips (Chandler)

Shelby Jean Chandler Phillips, 86, of Weaverville, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at her home. She was a native of Madison County, having lived most of her life in Buncombe County and the daughter of the late Nelson and Ollie Jarvis Chandler. She is also preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Phillips, second husband, Dan Young; sisters, Irene Miller, and Eloise Blankenship; brothers, Earl & Ray Chandler; and a grandson, Brandon Phillips.

Shelby Jean worked at Square D for years before being involved in several businesses in Madison and Buncombe County. She was also a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Shelby Jean is survived by her sons, Doug Phillips (Jeanine), and Jeff Phillips; daughter, Jeanna Brown (Steve); grandchildren, Brittney Whitworth (Matt), Leslie Ebert (Allen), Holden Phillips (Haley), Hailee Phillips, Kylie Mudegowdra, Lexi Groesser (Corey), and Paul and Emma Brown; great grandchildren, Hudson and Blair Whitworth, Gavyn and Nixon Ebert, Harper Shelby Phillips, Niam & Neel Mudegowdra, and Juliette Groesser; sister, Linda Maynor (Wade); brother-in-law, Charles Blankenship; sister-in-law, Norma Chandler; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1pm Monday, April 24, 2023, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverend Keith Watkins will officiate. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-5pm Sunday at the funeral home.
