Obituary for Wayne Franklin Boone

Wayne Franklin Boone passed away at the VA hospice care on April 2, 2022. Wayne was born February 26, 1929, the son of Lewis Oscar and Maude Leigh Presnell Boone of the Grapevine Section of Madison County. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Bruce Boone, Jack Boone, and Ernest Boone of Marshall; sisters: Bertie Sams of Asheville, Beulah Brown of Shelby, Bonnie Gosnell of Marshall, Birma Sawyer of Swannanoa, and Bethel Ammons of Weaverville; granddaughter: Tiffany LeAnn Coates. He is survived by his daughter Sheila Boone.
Wayne served in the Army during the Korean War (1951-1953). Where he earned the following medals: Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, and Occupation Medal (Japan).
Wayne enjoyed the outdoors throughout his life. As a young boy, he learned how to log with his father and then turned wood into a passion of carpentry. His passion was building iron-wheeled wagons to take on wagon trains. Wayne often was seen behind the reins of a horse, whether horseback riding, driving a wagon and plowing the fields to raise a tobacco crops or sugar cane for making molasses. He was an avid bird hunter with his friends and family. When his age limited him from hunting, he raised and released bobwhite quail to help repopulate the bird.
A special “Thank You” to the nurses and cna’s at VA hospice that took great care of Wayne during his final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm Saturday, April 9, 2022 in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service with Reverend Derek Whitson officiating. Burial will follow at Boone Cemetery in Marshall.
