Mrs. Alta "Susie" Capps passed away on Friday, December 8,2023 at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, NC. She was born at home on December 3, 1936, the second child of the late Ralph & Meda Coates Harmon.

She lived most of her life in Madison Co. until her illness when she moved to Hendersonville to live with her daughter. She was a 1956 graduate of Marshall High School.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers & their wives, Roy (Betty) and Nathan (Peggy) and her niece, Sheila Harmon. She was the granddaughter of the late James Reagan and Minnie Coates and Robert and Molly Harmon.

She was employed at Mars Hill College (now MHU) for 35 years in the Facilities Department. She loved her job and the people she worked with, especially the Athletic Department, where she loved and was loved by the coaches. She loved practical jokes as long as she was the one doing them, and the coaches were probably her victims more than once.

She was a wonderful mother, sister, aunt and friend. She spoiled her nieces and nephews and the Coomer grandchildren because she thought they were partly hers. She loved little children and went out of her way to be good to them. She loved her neighbors on Mountain View where she had lived for 27 years.

Her faith was very important to her, and she was always in her church except for illness or snow. Her other great love was her flowers and her garden. She had the greenest thumb in Mars Hill and any where there was a vacant spot, she would usually plant another flower.

She was a very patient individual, and this was evident after she became ill. She rarely complained about herself, but she always made sure to check on any of her family and friends when they were ill or needed anything.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Briggs (Larry Drake) of Hendersonville, her sister Ellen Harmon Coomer of Mars Hill, eight nieces & nephews, many cousins and a large extended family.

The family would like to extend a warm welcome to those who would like to celebrate her life. Her service will be Thursday, December 14th, 2023 at 1PM with visitation from 12 noon- 1 PM at Blue Ridge Funeral Home on Highway 213 in Mars Hill. Rev. Tommy Justus will officiate along with Dr. Craig Goforth.

The family will have a private burial following the service at the Harmon Cemetery on Cargile Branch (Grapevine).
