Althea Shook Stanley, 85, of Weaverville, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Solace Center surrounded by her family.
Althea was born on April 15, 1940, in Madison County to her late parents Tom Shook and Nell Hensley Shook. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Toy Stanley and a sister, Carolyn Shook Davis.
Althea was a resident of Weaverville, where she lived and raised her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She especially loved her great grandchildren and enjoyed playing the Wii with them. Althea was the founding member of the Stanley Family gospel group and a member of Mount Bethel Freewill Baptist church for 58 years. She loved her church family very much.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Darlene Cogdill (Robert) and Charlene Brown (Keith); five grandchildren, Jeremy Proffitt (Amy), Christy Anders (Eric), Travis Cogdill (Ashley), Hailey Arrington, and Rebekah Brown; 6 great grandchildren, Zoe Stanis (Joe), Isaiah, Madison, Tucker, Ella, and Eliza; a very special sister, Verna Mae Shook; and special nieces, Vickie and Annette, and special nephew, Jeffrey, as well as several other nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church. Reverends Mike Thomas and Robbie Raines will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1-2pm Wednesday at the church.
At other times, the family will be at Mrs. Stanley's home.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heather Ball and the staff at CarePartners Solace Center for their excellent and loving care they extended to Mrs. Stanley.
