Bacchus Fletcher McPeters, 91, of Old Buckner Post Office Road, Mars Hill, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018. He was a native of Yancey County and spent most of his life in Madison County. Bacchus was the son of the late Sammie and Lena Ray McPeters. He was a WWII US Navy Veteran. During his service he was stationed in Tokyo during the occupation of Japan. Bacchus was employed with American Enka/BASF for over 35 years. He served in leadership roles for several years with the French Broad Baptist Association. He enjoyed singing, farming, and traveling with his wife to 48 states.
In addition to his parents, Bacchus is preceded in death by his sister, Alma McPeters Riddle, and infant brother, Robert.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Evelyn Hamlin McPeters; daughter, Karen McPeters Newman (Gary); sons, Kent McPeters (Karen) and Mark McPeters (Myra); brother, Kenny Wayne McPeters (Glenda); grandchildren, Melissa Newman Johnson (Brandon), Bradley Newman (Melissa), Jocelyn McPeters Dryman (Daniel), Matthew McPeters (Hayley), Nathan McPeters and Kara McPeters; great grandchildren, Owen and Ivy Johnson, Avery and Sullivan Newman, and Levi Dryman.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm Monday, December 3, 2018, at Middle Fork Missionary Baptist Church, where he was an active member and served as a deacon and superintendent for 45 years. Reverends Nelson Ponder, Ted Richardson, Homer Tweed and Stanley Peek will officiate. Burial will follow in the Briggs Cemetery. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm-2pm Monday at the church.
