Bartlett
June 9, 1938 – June 11, 2025
Barbara Penland Bartlett, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. A native of Yancey County, North Carolina but lived most of her life in Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Dennie Penland and Robbie Penland. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William W. Bartlett, and her son Stephen D. Brinkley.
Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother. She became a member of Antioch Christian Church in Canton, Ga, after the loss of her husband in 2013. Prior her move to Georgia, she was a long-standing member of Beaverdam Baptist Church in Asheville, NC, where she was the Sunday school secretary and part of the message board decorating committees. She also loved attending her Sunday school class, where her late Cousin, Gail Waddell, taught.
Barbara loved her church and her family. She was a great seamstress and quilter. She also expressed her love by writing personal cards for any occasions whether it was for holidays, birthdays, giving a spiritual lift, sickness, or death.
She is survived by her children, Lisa Meehan (Steve) and Stacey Godfrey (Jeff); daughter-in-law, Sherri (wife of Stephen D. Brinkley); grandchildren, Michael Wellborn, Corey (Marly) Brinkley, Elisha (Eddie) Hyde and Conner (Alice) Brinkley, who gave her the name, "Mamaw" that she cherished deeply; and her only sibling, Richard Penland. She is also survived by great grandchildren, nephews, cousins, stepchildren, and step grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1 Chapel of Faith Drive, Candler, NC 28715. Reverend Jim McCoy will officiate. The family will receive friends half an hour prior to the service at the cemetery.
