Barbara English Ramsey passed away at Mission Hospital on September 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Val English; her infant daughter, Leah Ramsey; and her lifelong friends, Joyce Cutshaw and Naomi Sams.

Barbara graduated from Mars Hill High School and devoted 30 years of her life to teaching in Madison County Schools. During her career, she touched the lives of countless children whom she not only taught but also loved and cared for deeply.

Barbara was a kind and compassionate person who loved and cared for everyone. Above all else, she loved her family dearly. Some of her favorite memories were made while playing on an undefeated basketball team in 1972 and, later in life, traveling to watch her granddaughters play on the basketball court and softball field.

Barbara is survived by her best friend and devoted husband, Randy Ramsey; her mother, Freida English; her brother, Kenneth English; her daughter, Shannon Vilcinskas and her spouse, Ashley; and her granddaughters, Brooke Vilcinskas and Pressley Vilcinskas.

Barbara's loving heart, dedication to her students, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Union Valley Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend Harlon Chandler will officiate.
