Barbara Jean Franklin Shipley, 92, of TN, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024. She was the daughter of the late P.E. and Dolly Lee Wallin Franklin and a native of Madison County, NC. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lewis Shipley; her daughter, Marcia Lee Shipley Henry; her son, Paul Edward Shipley; and her two brothers, Frederick and Swayne.

She is survived by her grandchildren; Abigail Henry Singh (Sachin),Hannah Henry, Paul Hill (Tana), and Katy Shipley Herbert (Michael); and eight great grandchildren, Henry Pramod, Violet Amelia, Dominick, Joey, Bentley, Brannon, Brandie, and Brianna; as well as nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Barbara was a longtime educator, teaching in both Tennessee and North Carolina. She received a master's degree and Specialist in Education (Eds) degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Barbara was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church where she volunteered with the soup kitchen. She had a strong personal relationship with Christ. She was recently a resident of Sherrill Hills Retirement Resort. She loved to travel, having visited all 50 states, Europe, China, Egypt, Australia and more. However, one of favorite places was her family farm in Hot Springs, NC. She enjoyed crochet, painting, clogging, and swimming.

A funeral service will be held at 12pm Friday, June 21, 2024, at Blue Ridge Funeral & Cremation Service, Mars Hill, NC. Charlie Reynolds, pastor and longtime friend, will officiate. Burial will follow in Bowman-Rector Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
