Barbara Wallin, 85, went to her heavenly home on October 17, 2024. She was born on October 24, 1938, in Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Julius E. and Maggie Gosnell Lyda.

Barbara worked at Laurel Elementary School as the cafeteria manager and was also a bus driver.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Wallin; stepfather, J.D. Franklin; daughter, Tish Lawrence; a granddaughter, Victoria Hensley; sister, Bernice Dowda; and brothers, Tommy, and Preston "Bill" Lyda, and John Gahagan.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sheila Hensley (Arnold), Lisa McDaniel, Tina Lawrence, and Nikki Wallin Blankenship (Jason); grandchildren, David McDaniel, Andy "Buddy" Tweed, Megan Goforth, Bear Lawrence, Tanya Brister; Colton Gonzalez, Tyler Gonzalez, Adam Gonzalez, Derek Gonzalez; 18 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday October 20, 2024, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Reverend Jimmy Dean Hensley will officiate. Burial will follow in the Wallin Cemetery (aka Laurel Seminary Cemetery). The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home.
