Bascom Sylvannas Whitt, 85, of Mars Hill, passed away on Thursday October 9, 2025. He was born April 16, 1940, to the late Chalmers and Mollie Shook Whitt. Also preceding him in death is a brother, Conley Hubert Whitt.

Bascom was a US Army Veteran and a retired truck driver. He was a member of Laurel Bend Baptist Church.

Bascom is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Dean Rice Whitt; daughters, Pam Whitt, and Tammy Foxx (Craig); son, Michael Whitt (Cindy); sisters, Freda Buckner, Hattie Haney (Jerry), and Karen Stines (Bill); brother, Bennie Whitt (Chris); grandchildren, Alesha Soehl (Sean), Jesse Pottle, Savannah Whitt, Breanna Pottle, Mollie Whitt, and Emilie Whitt; great granddaughter, Alessandra Soehl; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, October 12, 2025, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Reverend Darrell Shelton will officiate. The family will receive friends, one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
