Betty Ann Gregory Ammons of Mars Hill passed from this life to her heavenly home on October 15th, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Lottie Isabelle Kent Gregory and Woodrow Gregory of Hot Springs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Ammons, and her brothers Floyd Gregory, and Clyde Gregory, and her most beloved best friend, Joanne Rice.
Betty played basketball and attended Hot Springs High School where she met Roy, her husband of 57 years. Betty enjoyed working for Ed Howard's pharmacy and then became a favorite figure at Mars Hill Town Hall for over thirty years, until her retirement in 2009. It was at the Town Hall where Betty met her best friend, Joanne Rice, with the two becoming so close, many thought they were sisters.
In her free time, Betty loved taking care of animals, listening to music, and reveling in the beauty of nature. Betty was a loyal attendee of Vision Missionary Baptist Church, where she joyfully sang in the choir.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Linda (Donald Williams); her granddaughter, Jamie (John Gosnell); sister Jean Bell (Jack); brothers, Clayton Gregory, and Douglas Gregory (Barbara); and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the loving nurses and staff at Compassionate Care in Burnsville, NC, and The Greens at Weaverville, especially Brian & Stephen, for the kindness, compassion, and care they provided.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 24, 2026, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Brother Eddie Fox will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Betty wished everyone to wear color, especially pink, which was her favorite color.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.blueridgefuneralservice.org.
