Betty Tweed Blackwell, 84, of Alexander, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday January 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Shelton Laurel, she was born on August 24, 1941, to the late Elmer and Dorothy Tweed. She was also preceded in death by several sisters and brothers.

Betty was a loving wife, mother and mamaw. She was a devout Christian and faithful member of Alexander Baptist Church. She retired from Buncombe County Schools, working in the cafeteria. Betty enjoyed cooking, fishing, and gardening. Keeping her grandbabies was the highlight of her days. She taught her family the importance of faith, and trusting God in all seasons of life.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 63 years, David Blackwell; daughter, Rena' Mills Hinson (Mark); sons, Lesley Blackwell (Tonya), and Doug Blackwell; grandchildren, Jesse, Rebekah, Molly, Malorie, Faith and Elizabeth; 4 great grandchildren, Carter, Gunner, Skyleigh, and River; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday January 19, 2026, in Alexander Baptist Church, with Reverand Gerald Sprinkle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Sunday, January 18, 2026, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service, Mars Hill.
