August 14, 1937 – September 27, 2025
Betty Sue Young Massey, 88, of Weaverville, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025. She was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Henderson Young and a native of Cherokee County, having lived most of her life in Buncombe County.
She is also preceded in death by her husband, Spencer Floyd Massey.
Betty attended Marshall Community Baptist Church, and she retired from AB-Emblem, where she enjoyed meeting the astronauts that she helped sew patches for. She was a hard worker and farmer, who was always willing to lend a helping hand, an avid reader, and she loved animals, especially horses.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Nancy Shelton (Dallas); sons, Floyd Massey (Virginia), Jeffrey Massey (Teresa), Roger Massey (Rachel); sister, Mary Rice; grandchildren, Tony Shelton (Haley), Melody Laster (Tim), Megan Miller (Stephen), Crystal Miller (Tim), Danielle Keefer (Zachary), Samantha Ingle (Jonathan), George Massey, Joshua Massey (Tahrista), Hannah Massey, and Rebekah Massey; 21 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1pm Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Marshall Community Baptist Church, 2680 Bull Creek Road, Marshall, NC 28753. Reverends Gary Fender, Jeff Massey, and Roger Massey will officiate. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. George Massey, Tony Shelton, Joshua Massey, Dillon Shelton, Tim Laster, and Zachary Keefer will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Tuesday, at Blue Ridge Funeral & Cremation Service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty's memory to Four Seasons Hospice, at fourseasonsfdn.org, or 211 N. Main St., Hendersonville, NC 28792.
The family would like to thank the staff of Four Season's Hospice and Hannah Hensley, for their loving care they extended to Betty during her illness.
